Das Gewaltschutzgesetz : The Protection Against Violence Act

Laws say what is allowed and what is forbidden. In Germany violence is forbidden, therefore also violence against women and children.

Since 2002 there is the Protection against Violence Act in Germany. This is a law that forbids violence in a marriage or relationship.

If there is violence between men and women, the Protection Against Violence Act can help. The Law can protect you from future violent assaults happening. It forbids men and women from seeing each other, talking to each other or living together. To be applicable it must be applied for in court.

If there is violence between men and women, the police can also help. The police can remove the man from the apartment. That is called eviction.

You can find more information about the Protection Against Violence Act here.
